One of the newer, cutting edge therapies to come to this area is the field of
“Professional Kinesiology Practice” (PKP).
Kinesiology is the study of movement in the human body. Professional Kinesiology
Practice is
an expansion of that field which incorporates both western and eastern medical
techniques. Eastern medicine uses the bodies energetic pathways called meridians
and works to create a balance within those pathways. These defined energetic
pathways within the human body are similar to an electrical system in a car,
provide energy to different parts of the body. These meridians can be
photographed and measured with galvanometers and other instruments. When there
is interference within these pathways symptoms often develop within the body.
The doctors who developed these PKP techniques discovered that by testing the
relative strength of the muscles that receive their electrical supply from these
meridians they can determine the state of balance or imbalance within the
meridians.
Kinesiology practitioners do very specific muscle testing to isolate the cause
of imbalances, using the body as real time biofeedback. When people have pain or
chronic problems we usually associate it with some form of physical injury.
Recent studies have shown that in fact the opposite is true. Physical injury
accounts for less than half of most chronic pain. The other two large causes are
either emotional/mental stress or nutritional/chemical stress. By using the
bodies muscles as real time biofeedback we can not only find the source of the
pain but also find the correction needed.
There is not just one answer for all the different problems that we may
experience and that old saying, “one man’s medicine is another man’s poison’ is
very true. Many times people are overloading their system by taking too many or
the wrong type of nutritional supplements.
Often, the most significant cause of pain is related to emotional stress. What
happens physiologically in our brain when we have a thought or an emotion is
that there are chemicals released which create an electrical brainwave. These
brainwaves can be measured with electroencephalogram or lie detector tests.
Different emotions create different brainwaves. The reaction of these different
brainwaves can either be strengthening or weakening to the meridians within the
body.
For the most part, the positive emotions are strengthening or healing to the
body and the negative emotions have an adverse effect. For example, the Bible
talks about the; “fruit of the spirit”, i.e. love, joy, peace, patience, etc.,
these emotions will actually increase the strength of a muscle and the energy
flow within the meridian while the person is thinking about that emotion.
The negative emotions, i.e., anger, bitterness, wrath, anxiety, etc., will
dramatically weaken a muscle and the energy through a meridian while thinking
about that emotion. Kinesiology practitioners use simple techniques using the
meridians and acupressure touch to effectively “reset” the body’s response to
the emotional stresses. These emotional stresses (baggage) that we all have,
actually have an effect on the energy throughout our body and can be cumulative.
If we can release the stress on our body whether it be physical, emotional or
nutritional our bodies can operate closer to their potential and often the
symptoms diminish or disappear completely. We don’t treat the symptoms but try
to find and release the stress on the system and let the body heal itself.
One area that Professional Kinesiology Practice techniques work very effectively is with
athletes, either with injuries or improving athletic performance. People
suffering with chronic pain problems like Fibromyalgia also often find
significant relief. Or, if you just don’t feel as good as you’d like to, you are
very likely to be surprised by how much better you can feel. Sessions are 1 hour in length and the cost is
$90.00.
These techniques are also taught for interested professionals or
laypersons through two different programs:
Touch for Health (TFH). TFH is a series of 4 classes, each 15
hours in length. TFH teaches a comprehensive array of energy
kinesiology techniques which give the student a broad spectrum or
useable techniques. The classes are beneficial for either laypersons
or professional healthcare workers.
For More Information.
K-Power® classes teach very specific techniques that a
professional healthcare worker can incorporate immediately into the
daily work. K-Power® provides very powerful tools for the interested
layperson as well. There are no perquisites to begin the series.
These are also taught in short courses, i.e. 1-3 days in length.
For more information.
Each class is usually taught over two days or a weekend. Steve
Woodward is a certified instructor through the International
Kinesiology College (IKC) and the International College of
Professional Kinesiology Practice (icpkp).
Recent studies have
shown that about 80% of chronic pain and dysfunction
problems have an emotional base and only 20% have an
actual physical injury that triggered or caused the
problem. When one considers the amount of emotional
stress most of us are under on a constant basis it is
easy to understand how this can be true.
An analogy of what happens in the brain when a thought
or an emotion is experienced is that chemicals are
produced that create electrical brainwaves. Some of
these brainwaves have a positive effect on the
electrical supply within the body. In the Bible, the
“fruit of the Spirit”, is mentioned, i.e.; “love, joy,
peace, patience, etc.”. These emotions, “the positive
ones”, actually increase the energy within the body, the
moment they are experienced or thought. On the contrary,
the negative emotions: anger, bitterness, anxiety, lack
of forgiveness, etc. have a weakening effect on the
energy within the body.
The Bible also states; “be yea transformed by the
renewing of the mind”. When a person is under stressful
emotional circumstances, i.e., difficult relationships,
we cannot change the other person, but we do have the
ability to change ourselves. We have the ability
(choice) to change how we respond to that stressful
situation. The most powerful of all emotions is; “Love”.
The next most powerful emotions are; “Forgiveness” and
“Gratitude”. We have a choice what we chose to think. We
do not have to be bound or tied to the past. At PKS we
teach techniques to help persons, “reset their system”
to past pain and trauma and how to deal more effectively
when new stresses occur. These techniques are taught as
part of the Touch for Health classes.
Soon another class; “ESR (Emotional Stress Release)
mastery”, a two day class will be added which highlights
these techniques in a powerful hands on way to help
individuals, therapists, counselors, doctors use and
share these techniques to help in powerful ways.
